A Good Excuse for A Sick Day: Edgefest 2013

If you managed to find an excuse to get out of work on Wednesday, you better have made it out to this years Edgefest. Hosted by the Edge and Jagermeister, there were two stages showcasing over 15 bands including headliners The Lumineers. Even with the bipolar weather throughout the day, the crowd peaked at an awesome 25 000 people. Canadian Club was also there giving out samples of their new pre-mixed drinks as well as cardboard seats for everyone on the lawn. Food and merchandise vendors lined the perimeter of Downsview Park selling anything from texas burgers to handmade jewellery.

The jagermeister stage hosted bands like You Won't, from Boston and who had opened for The Lumineers on their tour. "We have never seen such an awesome crowd, especially in the middle of the day, in the middle of the week! Shouldn't you all be at work??" lead singer Josh told us. "We prefer these kinds of venues though, out in the sun, just hanging out with everyone and having a good time." It certainly was a good time at the jagermeister tent, where fans could line up for autographs from their favourite artists, compete in competitions to get free jagermeister swag and listen to great music.

Bigger names like The Neighbourhood, Mother Mother, Monstertruck (the crowds favourite) and the Lumineers performed on the main stage. Monstertruck definitely stole the show with their heavy metal, badass rocker looks and killer head banging moves, not to mention their music was pretty awesome. The crowd broke into mosh pits and crowd surfing, singing along to all their songs. I felt like I was witnessing history in the making of one of the great rock and roll bands.

Overall it was an amazing day. Yes there was rain and some below ideal temperatures, but with a little bit of booze, head banging and killer music, you can't go wrong. Edgefest 2013 really went all out in putting together a great festival and we look forward to what they'll come up with for next years.
