Charles Foran raises a toast to Mordecai
Hosted at the Le Meridien King Edward Hotel, the Charles Taylor Prize for Literary Non-Fiction was a glamorous affair. Filled with Canadian literary luminaries and the media, it was a gathering to honour the writer nominees and celebrate Charles Foran, who was named the winner of the 2011 Charles Taylor Prize for his book Mordecai: The Life & Times, published by Alfred A. Knopf Canada.

According to Ken McGoogan of The National Post, Foran has written "the definitive biography of Mordecai Richler, one of the greatest role-model writers this country has produced." For a field where few expect recognition, this prestigious book prize showcases exceptional authors who captivate with superb command of the English language, an elegance of style and a subtlety of thought and perception.

2011 is the 10th awarding of The Charles Taylor Prize. Originally awarded every two years, due to an ever increasing number of submissions, since 2004 the Prize has been presented annually. Its success is a huge indication that literary Canada is alive and well.
