What: Smoke's Poutinerie
Where: 578 Queen Street West (Bathurst St. & Queen St.)
A pioneer of it's kind, Smoke's quick-serve style restaurant offers a wide variety of poutine sure to make any cheese, gravy and fry-loving indiviual salivate. We decided to try the Country Style poutine and the Pulled Pork poutine (both $6.99 for a small).
The Country Style - which includes chicken, mushrooms, onion and bacon - despite lacking in the fry department was quite delicious. The chicken was tender and perfectly spiced. The mushrooms, onion and bacon played as perfect background flavours, mixing with the gravy and curds quite nicely.
The Pulled Pork - which includes chipotle pulled pork - was a nice blend of sweet (from the chipotle sauce on the pork) and savoury (from the gravy) on the tongue. The curds and gravy bring this poutine together with a nice, rich texture.
The tiny restaurant itself is the perfect place to grab a quick meal on the go; and although some may complain that there are no actual tables and only bar stools, we believe the lack of these obvious necessities adds character to Smoke's.
