Occasionally, as you're walking downtown, you spot an immaculately coiffed person strutting their stuff. Marc Miltenburg is the guy they go to. A hair stylist with two decades of Yorkville experience under his belt, Marc just recently opened his own boutique on the east end of town.
Located on a shady street just down Pape subway station, we walked around the neighborhood before our interview. From our observation, Hair with M is a fresh addition to the area's existing styling boutiques. In contrast to sad little shops reeking of chemicals, retro [read old] sun faded photographs and plastic-y decor, Hair with M is a sleek, yet intimate boutique with a designer lounge area. Clients are served excellent coffee while expert hands tease and whip hair into fighting shape. Dog-friendly and clean, his studio even features two blank walls to be filled with local Canadian art. It is no surprise that he is stylist to more than a few celebrities, though we won't say who!
It was an interesting conversation with Marc. Discussing more than just a business, Marc talked about his salon as a dream come true. His other passions, art and design, feature heavily in his work and is what we suspect makes him different. We actually got tipped by a first-time client, a media maven who 6 months on is still rocking the do'. She got a cut that complimented her features, was low maintenance and practical. A stylist with a contemporary style and an easy demeanor, Marc is a well kept secret we just had to let slip.
