Five Alarm Funk at Lee's Palace

Tayo of Five Alarm Funk
Five Alarm Funk has officially thrown down the best gig in the city this May weekend. Opened by The Soul Motivators and AfterFunk, Five Alarm Funk is a band known for it's on-stage hijinks. Their bare-chested members smirked at groupies while drummers spewed body fluids onto the crowd below. The gig was kinda epic, with music that got the entire crowd moving. Not just the usual front-row band geeks or the troublemakin' skin moshers, we're talking everyone. People were actually dancing.

The Soul Motivators
We loved their song, "Hey Critic", which was inspired by well, a critic who now eats crow. Their energy reached everyone who cared to listen, and we'd recommend band stalking when it gets this good.

Check out more photos here for evidence of a good time.

Yanick Allwood of AfterFunk
Described as a party-orchestral-funk band, they hail from Vancouver and are touring in support of their fourth album, Rock The Sky.

The group has performed over 400 live shows and won a 2011 Western Canadian Music Award for ‘Instrumental Recording of the Year’ for their last release Anything is Possible. ChartAttack also called it a 'potent mind altering substance.' They've graced stages at a number of festivals including Toronto Jazz Festival, Ottawa Blues Fest, and Summer Meltdown in Washington state, not to mention countless sold-out shows at the Commodore Ballroom in their home city of Vancouver.
