Salvation by Les Coquettes

Love is a multi-faceted thing. Presented by burlesque troupe Les Coquettes, their show, Salvation, is a take on the many translations that brings people to the heights of heaven or the depths of condemnation. The venue was packed with a mix of burlesque fans, curious Groupon newbies and beautiful souls decked out in sparkly finery.

Host La Minouche was stunning in her many outfit changes, while Lilli Bubalotovich, choreographer of the troupe sent kisses skyward. People were respectful, performers were well-lit and those who had birthdays were either kissed, grabbed or shoved up stage for the amusement of the crowd. Our only small nitpicky gripe of the night was that the last act was somewhat unannounced. We wish we had more time to applaud edgy closing act, Billie Black, with a standing ovation.

Everyone has their favorites, but if you're aiming to bring an uninitiated soul along to future Les Coquettes shows, keep it succinct. Mention the exotic beauty of Suki TsunamiDew Lily's immaculate sense of timing and aerial performances by Charlotte Webber and Billie Black. Burlesque, as executed by Les Coquettes, is an art form that requires skill, guts, grace and above all, strength.

For future shows, consider their new program, Speakeasy, a dining and cabaret theatre experience that features a different show every night and a sumptuous dinner prepared by Chef Christopher Wood.
