Zero Hour : The Zero Mostel Play

Jim Brochu as Zero Mostel
Jim Brochu should be quoted ad nausea, for he really is quite hilarious. He wrote and stars in Zero Hour, a loud drama where politics and hilarity go hand in hand. In a return limited engagement, he portrays Hollywood celebrity Zero Mostel in the grand style of method acting.

Yes, sometimes there it is a hit-and-miss when it comes to one-man plays, but Jim is a character you will not soon forget. It was worth every second, with some audience members calling their friends during intermission to report positively on Zero Hour's opening night.

The play has been awarded the NY Drama Desk Award for its larger-than-life star. This one is a kicker. Think fierce, anarchic ribaldry. Jim is a great comedian and excellent thespian, using his entire body to kick up dust, seemingly shaking the stage and at least the two front rows. Skip the standard comedy clubs and head to Zero Hour instead.

At some points, as a younger audience, we found it slightly offbeat and did not catch some of the era-specific jokes during the show. However, it was made up by the fact that the themes he explored were universal, applicable to contemporary times where an open internet and free access to knowledge is under threat.

Zero Hour runs from 8 February to 11 March at Bathurst Street Theatre. For more information and ticketing, head to Zero Hour Show
