Jack Astor's Flair Bartender Competition

The judges have the best seat in the house.
Summer is the season of the 4-day weekend. We started off this week at Jack Astor's on John Street. We went for the Flair Bartender Competition, a TRUE BLOOD themed event held to benefit the Daily Bread Food Bank.

Guests spent the night rioting on the patios [3 in all] dressed up as vampires going about business, hollering at the moon with careless abandon. The Flair Bartender Competition was loud and rowdy from the beginning. Duos flashed their skills and jiggled around a happy, contented crowd. Our favorite bartender of the night was Leslie who nailed a perfect set in the solo round. DJ Jude Kelly and MC Fraser Young made the night legendary, playing hip new sounds along with party anthems. We like the fine balance between retro and now. Attracting a diverse crowd of gorgeous ladies and sporting men, the party looked like a perfect sampler of Toronto itself.

Unlike some local clubs that throw a themed party every other day, the staff at Jack Astor's looked like they were really invested in raising money for Daily Bread. We even overheard a bartender say that his tips would be going to the pool. Service was quick, attentive and coupled with a smile.

We are surprised that spending the night there could bring such fun. We know chain named pubs scare away the super hip crowd. But hear us out! The Jack Astor's on John Street has a little extra vibe from the fine people who run it. Go there after work, have a beer, enjoy the patios and be nice to the staff!
