Local CEOs, founders, and startup veterans will be on hand to provide expertise and share their experiences in the fast-paced world of technology startups.
"This is going to be a great weekend for the startup community in Toronto" said Chris Eben, the event’s lead organiser. "It’s great to see the experienced guys donate their time and money to help the community grow locally."
On Friday night, attendees will take the open mic to pitch their ideas to the group in 60 seconds or less. After teams form, the rest of the weekend will be spent developing the most popular ideas – typically web and mobile applications – with the help of mentors and seasoned startup entrepreneurs. Around 300 people are expected to participate in the event.

By Sunday, teams will be ready to present their ideas in front of a panel of judges who will award great prizes designed to help teams continue to build their startups after the weekend is done.
The winning team will be announced at a closing party Sunday night, November 11th. Members of the public are invited to attend to meet the winning team, network with entrepreneurs and watch panel sessions about startup culture.
"Our mission this weekend isn’t limited to just creating local startups. We want to support local business as well," said co-organizer Sunil Sharma. "Part of the learning experience at Startup Weekend is demonstrating practices that encourage growth and innovation right here at home."
Startup Weekend Toronto is one of around 60 Startup Weekend events being held across the globe as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW). The winner of Startup Weekend Toronto will go forward to compete in a Global Startup Battle against all of the winning teams from all cities for a chance to win even more prizes.
GEW is an international initiative that celebrates the innovators and job creators who launch startups. Toronto’s event will officially open GEW for Canada through it’s partnership with the CYBF, the organization behind GEW Canada.
